Philanthropist, pianist, teacher, and founder of the Deux Mille Foundation, Marnie Carter, was awarded the Canadian Music Centre’s Barbara Pentland 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award for her extraordinary contribution to Canadian Music on Tuesday, October 27 at the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Music Centre in BC. Marnie Carter is an accomplished pianist, a dedicated teacher, and founder of the Deux Mille Foundation. She has made a lifetime commitment to Canadian music and is a passionate supporter of the performing arts, particularly music and dance.
Marnie studied piano in her hometown of Winnipeg, as well as in Toronto, Montreal, and London, England. She was married to the late Howard Carter, founder of the Carter Auto Group, and raised a close-knit family also active in the arts while maintaining an active piano and accompanying career.
Since moving to Vancouver in 1963, she has dedicated herself as a volunteer and patron for many artistic and charitable organizations and we are happy to celebrate her lifelong commitment to Canadian music.
Previous recipients of the award include iconoclastic maverick, composer, and conductor Owen Underhill; internationally celebrated conductor and composer Maestro Bramwell Tovey; and the personification of choral music incarnate, composer and conductor Jon Washburn.
