LightSpace:  A Spatialized Percussion Concert

The Canadian Music Centre in BC, in partnership with the Redshift Music Society, is pleased to announce a free concert at the Roundhouse Exhibition Gallery on July 7th at 5pm.
This show is the culmination of the CMC’s inaugural R. Murray Schafer Spatial Music Workshop led by Jordan Nobles. It will feature 8 percussionists positioned around the hall, with audience members invited to walk within the space and experience the music from all angles.
Driftwood Percussion will be performing new pieces by workshop composers Erich Barganier, Jack Campbell, Hanna Kim, Dubravko Pajalic, and Michael Selvaggi, alongside works by Alfredo Santa Ana, Jocelyn Morlock, and Jordan Nobles.
As Redshift Music’s percussion ensemble-in-residence, Driftwood Percussion shares Redshift’s signature interests in spatial performance experiences, staging concerts in interesting spaces, and premiering new works.
Music performed by Katie Rife, Martin Fisk, Brian Nesselroad, Vern Griffiths, Julia Chien,  Michael Jarrett, Luke Hildebrandt, and Jaelem Bhate.
This is a free all-ages event. No tickets are required for entry.

New Music at the Gallery

The Canadian Music Centre in BC in partnership with the Vancouver Art Gallery invite you to join us for a new live concert series. New Music at the Gallery will draw on contemporary art themes and highlight a selection of twentieth and twenty-first-century music compositions. The inaugural concert will feature a solo violin performance by Jack Campbell of a new composition written in collaboration with the Vancouver Art Gallery and inspired by the Gallery’s collection of works by celebrated American painter and graphic artist Robert Rauschenberg. A selection of Rauschenberg’s works will be on view to complement the musical experience.

Celebrating one of Canada’s most prolific and performed composers, CMC BC is joining together with the Vancouver Chamber Choir and the UBC School of Music, to co-present Stephen Chatman’s 70th Birthday Celebration featuring members of the Vancouver Chamber Choir and Vetta Chamber Players on Monday, March 6, 2022 at 3:00 pm in  The Chan Centre.

A co-presentation of the Canadian Music Centre, Vancouver Chamber Choir, and the UBC School of Music.

This concert was originally scheduled for March 2020 and was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of Canada’s most frequently performed composers, Stephen Chatman, C.M., D.M.A. is Professor of Composition at the University of British Columbia School of Music. He has received many composition awards, including 2005, 2006 and 2010 Western Canadian Music Awards “Classical Composition of the Year”, 2010 and 2012 SOCAN Jan V. Matejcek New Classical Music Award, three BMI Awards (New York), multiple JUNO nominations, Dorothy Somerset Award, the Charles Ives Scholarship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and is the only Canadian ever short-listed for the BBC Masterprize (London). Dr. Chatman was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2012.
