Timothy Chooi

Pianist Avan Yu & Violinist Timothy Chooi are two of the most internationally-celebrated young soloists BC has produced in a generation!

Winner of the 2010 Montreal Symphony Competition, Timothy Chooi grew up in Victoria and received the Sylva Gelber Award in  2015 and was recently awarded  the 1717 Windsor-Weinstein Stradivarius  on loan from the Canada Council.

Canadian pianist Avan Yu won the Sydney International Piano Competition in 2012, was the youngest-ever winner of the Canadian Chopin Competition, and was awarded the Silver Medal and Audience Prize at the prestigious Santander International Piano Competition.

CMC BC is proud to present them together for the first time ever in the sumptuous Franck Violin Sonata, never-before-heard works by Hector Gratton & Barbara Pentland from our Harry Adaskin Special Collection of manuscripts, and joined by our own Stefan Hintersteininger, these extraordinary young artists will perform Murray Adaskin’s Piano Trio using Adaskin’s own piano in the CMC’s beautifully intimate new Murray Adaskin Salon.

Patrons will also enjoy champagne and delicious canapés, receive a $50 tax-deductible receipt and enjoy our first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award.
