Our BC Advisory Council held a retreat in March as part of our 2022 – 2023 Revisioning Project curated together with Warren Dean Flandez, a leading EDI consultation. At that retreat the Council adopted Five Aspirations and at our Annual Meeting in June, the membership voted unanimously to adopt those Five Aspirations as well as the following Vision Statement, which was developed in collaboration with Warren Dean Flandez following extensive community consultations and discussion.

Five Aspirations

First Aspiration

Centre Justice, Equity, and Belonging throughout our work, values, and strategic direction so real Diversity, Decolonization and Indigenization is lasting result.

Second Aspiration

Reimagine CMC BC As A Resource Centre, transitioning towards supporting, empowering, and promoting the work of others in the overall new music ecosystem.

Third Aspiration

Expand our engagement with youth under 25.

Fourth Aspiration

Play Broader Provincial Role In Engaging and Bringing New Music Community Together.

Fifth Aspiration

Ensure sustainability of CMC BC.

Our Vision

At
CMC BC, we envision a vibrant and inclusive musical community in which equity, diversity, and inclusion resonate in everything we do. We are dedicated to embodying these values through our programs, services, space, and training, embracing and celebrating the rich tapestry of musical cultures and traditions that contribute to our community’s vibrancy.

We
are committed to establishing a representative council and committees that reflect the polyphony of regional, racial, cultural, gender, sexual, and age diversity, ensuring that every member’s voice is heard, valued, and embraced.

Through
dedicated programs, our vision is to unite composers and performers, elevating the art of creating and performing new music and forging lasting connections that resonate with our collective spirit. Our visionary scope extends to encompass a wider demographic, offering resources and programs that strike a harmonious chord with diverse ages and backgrounds. Our commitment to cultivating a meaningful rapport with youth is exemplified by our free educational workshops and the scholarships and awards we present each year.

To
foster wellness and connection, we aspire to play a significant role in connecting, supporting, and nurturing the new music community province-wide. Additionally, we are committed to ensuring the financial sustainability and independence of CMC BC, enabling us to continue creating ever-greater engagement and artistic vibrancy.

Ultimately
our vision is to enrich the community by providing more impactful, generous, and efficient ways of sharing resources. By realizing this vision, we will work towards making CMC BC the most welcoming and inclusive creative centre for all members of the province’s new music community.

We want to thank the BC Arts Council and the City of Vancouver for grants helping us undertake this revisioning work.
