Compocon 2024: Presentation of Final Works
Join us for an unforgettable evening of bold new sounds as Standing Wave proudly presents Compocon: Presentation of Final Works! On February 24th at 7 PM, the Annex in downtown Vancouver will come alive with the premieres of nine brand-new compositions by emerging composers who participated in Standing Wave’s groundbreaking Compocon workshop in August 2024. Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend!

Compocon is Standing Wave’s innovative summer mentorship program designed to foster the next generation of musical voices. Last summer, nine talented composers gathered at the University of British Columbia to work closely with Standing Wave’s ensemble members and an exceptional lineup of mentor composers: Jeffrey Ryan, Alfredo Santa Ana, and Linda Catlin Smith, as well as Artist-In-Residence Russell Wallace. Throughout the workshop, participants explored new techniques, refined their artistic voices, and collaborated directly with musicians and mentors to bring their ideas to life.

Since August, these composers have continued developing their works, shaping them into fully realized pieces that will now make their world premiere on the Annex stage. With the ink finally dry, this concert is the culmination of six months of creative exploration, mentorship, and dedication.
