Our 2019-2020 Celebration Series opens with a special 60th Birthday Celebration of Canadian Composer Jacqueline Leggatt on Sunday, October 27, 2019, at 7:00 pm in the beautifully-refurbished Koerner Recital Hall. A co-presentation with the Vancouver Academy of Music where Leggatt is Head of Theory, this unique Celebration features CMC BC’s new Ensemble-In-Residence, Vetta Chamber Players, along with Vanier Park Strings conducted by Joseph Elsworthyand a special installation for sixteen-channel speaker array.

The program features The Elaboration of Impossibility (2019), a brand new electronic work based on a recording of The Impossibility of ElaborationCat’s Eye (1990) for solo soprano saxophone; Traffic (2017) for soprano sax & piano; Girls In Their Married Bliss (1993); a new arrangement of Cold Trip for violin, piano, sax, poetry, and electronics; and Zoe Sleeps (2012) for string orchestra.

 

Dr. Leggatt received her Bachelor of Music degree in Piano from Queen’s University at Kingston, and her M.Mus and DMA in Composition from the University of British Columbia where she studied with Eugene Wilson. She has written works for film, plays and dance although her primary activity is in chamber music. Her works have been performed throughout Canada and the U.S.

CMC BCs Celebration of Jacqueline Leggatt opens our most ambitious and innovative Celebration Series ever — six unforgettable concerts in four unique venues featuring seven outstanding composers: Jacqueline Leggatt, Jocelyn Morlock & Jordan Nobles, Ernst Schneider, Ross Alden, Stephen Chatman, and Leila Lustig.

The Celebration Series is the core of our 2019-2020 concert series of ten performances in Penticton, Victoria, and Vancouver, featuring an unprecedented array of collaborations with the Okanagan Symphony, Vancouver Chamber Choir, Victoria Composer’s Collective, Vetta Chamber Music Society, Redshift Music Society, Of The Now Concert Series, UBC School of Music, and the Vancouver Academy of Music.
